Mandala Monday 008

I was shopping with my Momma for school clothes.  It was the 1980s & I had big hair & bigger shoulder pads.  We were in a chain store in south Alabama, at one of those outlet malls.  I tried on the prettiest sunflower-yellow sweater I'd ever seen.  

No doubt, the sweater was pretty, but I was kinda on the fence about whether I could live without it or not.  No lie, Mom & I had both just commented on the fantastic color when the clerk popped her head around the corner & stated "Hmmmmm, yella's really not yoh-uh cullah, is it?"

That decided it, thank you very much.  

I bought the sweater (well, Momma did, to tell the truth) and that moment began my unapologetic crusade for color.  Color, for the sake of color, regardless of skin tone, season or store clerks.
